Repowering a Gilson 55134

To be honest I was thinking about parting my Gilson 55134 out. The main problem is the old briggs engine. The more I think about it the more I think I should repower it rather then part it. What Would be the best engine for it? I'm having a tough time deciding on the right one.

The good thing is that the old engine has a single output shaft. This will definitely make the swap easier.

I repowered my Montgomery Ward ( Gilson ) 8 / 26 with a Predator 212cc and it works great. How wide is the bucket? If 26 inches or less the Predator 212cc engine will work great. If larger go with the 301cc Predator engine and it will be a beast.

It's a 26 inch cutting width. A predator seems like a good option but what about a new Briggs?

That is a Predator 212cc on the old Gilson made Montgomery Ward 8 / 26. They run just as good or better than any new Briggs and they're much better priced

a new briggs will be made in china just like the predator and much more expensive. Right now you can get the predator for 99 dollars
I have used several of the 6.5hp and a few of the 11hp harbor freight engines and all have preformed very well.

Talking

Best bang for the bucks, HF 212cc Predator I put on my log splitter, on my MTD snow blower Hemi version and my troy build chipper shredder.

Want another one for my Troy Build horse tiller and a 3hp model for a old walk behind garden tractor with a sickle bar mower on it.

Al
