301 Predator Carb

Hi Guys!
Will the adjustable jet available on Ebay work on the 301 Predator or is it 212 Predator specific?
Thanks,
Marc

I can't say for sure...? I'd be surprised if they were different though....

I've read about this kit. How important is it? Getting ready to throw a 301 on a project.

I have adjustable kit on a 179CC Powemore MTD engine. Put it on because it is a single speed engine and it surged when not working. Got rid of 99% of the surge and the blower will do everything I want it to. If I was you I would do the swap first and see if you need to change anything on the engine. I have 6 or 7 of the clones and most of them have not needed the adjustable needle kit. Most are 196CC engines and two are 212CC. I will add the kit to the 196CC engine on my Baja Mini Bike but that engine is some what modified. Roger

I put it on my 301. Kind of winged it for adjustment, you see it fits a bit loosley to the bowl when near the sweet spot. I think a longer spring, washers or o-rings would fix it.

It drips a few drops while running, but I kill the engine by fuel valve so it doesn't drip in the garage.

I spoke over the Ebay messaging, and the guy was very responsive. I think a slightly longer spring may be needed for the 301, or maybe my bowl or gasket is thinner than normal.

I would prefer this over drilling the orifice.

- Predator chonda 301cc 61415
My last engine rebuild was in the 70's a '64 Corvair turbo Spyder. Back then many friends were motorheads and lent me ring compressors, glaze busters and the like. So I know the concepts.

Can you add a few washers as needed to make up for the lack of length on the spring?

If you decide against using the adjustable jet you can buy pre drilled jets on OMB, NR racing and Ebay. Most here find the .032" jet works well on the 212. I am not sure what the 301 would be optimized to. It is not as popular but I am sure over time there will be a good sized knowledge base.

Yeah - I would just ad a few washers in there....

Well, that would be me, that you spoke with on e-bay. Was not sure exactly how things turned out for you, but it does not sound to positive.

I want to get to the bottom of this problem, so I just ordered an 8hp Honda GX240 replacement carb, to check out and mess with. It is coming from here in the USA and claims to be delivered between the 17th and the 22ed.

I also found another company, that sells a carb, that claims it is a replacement for the 301cc, 346cc and the 420cc engines. I find it a bit hard to believe that the main jet is the same size in all 3 engines. ---- John

Bumping this up to see if anyone else has any recommendations for running a 301 repower with the stock jets?
