Predator for an old 80's Monkey Ward/MTD 8hp B&S

I've got an old Monkey Wards/MTD 8hp B&S 26" wide blower that's from the early 80's if not older. I'd like to repower with a 6.5hp Predator, but without taking the pulley off, it looks like the B&S shaft is about 5 inches high and the Predator's box said its is 4.2 inches high.
So will I just need to make a shim for it?
Looks like I'll have to drill new mounting holes because the Predator's holes are about an inch and a half narrower.
Not sure about the B&S shaft diameter until I get the pulley off.

Perhaps you should think of a Predator 301 instead of the 212:

8 HP (301cc) OHV Horizontal Shaft Gas Engine EPA/CARB

That will be closer to a drop-in replacement.
