How did your Predator re-power turn out ??

Just looking to see how may satisfied Predator owners there are compared to the unhappy ones.

If you leave a comment interested in brand and HP engine you replaced and which Predator you replaced it with ??

Owners only. No bashing please, just the facts.

Replaced a Running 5 hp Tecumseh snow king with a 212 cc Predator. The Tec would not reach operating rpms and needed overhaul. Installed the Predator with no installation issues. Also installed an impeller kit using tractor belting material from TSC. Some stalling issues due to venting. Once solved, a happy customer. A 521 Toro throwing wet snow more than 30 feet. MH

Replaced a 5 hp Tecumseh with Predator 212cc on a Toro 521. It was plug 'n play and the thing rocks.

ive used tons of 196cc honda clones, genuine hondas and predator engines for snowblower and other repowers. every one has turned out perfectly (if you dont mind a bit of fab work)

Installed a Predator 212cc on a Ariens 10000 series 724, also installed a slightly larger crank pulley (it made a significant difference in power performance and throwing distance compared to other stock Ariens 724 I've had before).
It also seemed to have equal or more power than a Tec 8hp that I installed on another 10000 series with the same crank pulley upgrade.

Predator Re-Power

In Canada, we donít have Harbor Freight but Canadian Tire carries a RATO 212cc engine which looks very similar to the newer 212cc Harbor Freight Predator model. I suspect the manufacturer is the same (not sure of this).

This model engine lists for $249.99 but Iíve seen it on special once in the last several years for $99.99 so I grabbed it. It seems to be in very short supply as very few Canadian Tires seem to carry it. I had the lady call several stores just to find one store in a nearby city that had one in stock.

I put it on my Ď69 Ariens and have been very happy with the easy starts and performance.

I followed the advice on this forum and saw a good YouTube video with a guy who added the Predator to his í71 Ariens.

Basically,
a) a) I cut the old tractor engine mounting studs off and measured carefully to drill 4 new holes to make sure the pulley lined up correctly. Used stainless steel bolts and lock nuts for the engine mounts. The old Tecumseh pulley fit perfectly on this engine but I made sure I used two NEW set screws and a bit of medium strength Loctite. The pulley was very slightly moving outwards on the old Tecumseh and rubbing the Outer belt guard.

b)b) I added a longer eye-bolt to the side of the handlebars and it is lower down the bars.

c)

c) Needed to add a thin washer to one of the upper holes on the inside of the Inner belt guard which lined up perfectly with one of the pre-drilled holes on the pulley side face of the block. The old bolt fit perfectly through the Outer belt guard and cleared the pulley shaft of the engine nicely.

d) d) Reversed the clutch rod where it attaches the tractor just to provide a little more clearance for turning the snow chute handle easily.
e) Added a fairly thick spacer to the mounting where the worm gear engages the teeth on the chute to accommodate the lower angle of the worm gear engagement. I feel it actually engages the chute teeth more solidly than the factory way now (for me anyways).

f) e) Throttle cable attached nicely to the new engine but you need to remember that full throttle and stop are reversed.

g) f) Switched the two engine oil plugs to more easily access the oil plug with the dipstick (very small plastic dipstick).
