Hey guys, I have a 1983 Simplicity 870 in overall great shape.
But I do have to change the units friction disk. Its dry, brittle and chunks are missing from the rubber. Its a wonder the drive is still working. Still works except first is going too slow and hesitating, probably because its slipping, I guess that's first to go, when the rubber disk wears out.
Can anyone out their provide me with the service manual for my machine? I was told they were all basically the same during that time, except different size buckets and engines. A few people said the signature pro is still basically using that same drive except for a few updates like the easy turn. I have searched all over the internet but I cant find it anywhere, but I know it exists. I even contacted Briggs/Simplicity and they say they do not have it. Only the parts and operators, thats all.
I was hoping someone who had my machine or one similar could email me a copy.
With the service manual, I should have no issue changing it out. But without it I don't wanna be poking around in their and removing things that don't need to be.
If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it and will be happy to extend the favor when someone else needs the literature. Thanks in advance.

Update,
Great news*
Briggs and Stratton has sent me a paper copy of the service manual pro bono, I just received it. I have to hand it to them, great customer support. Its the 1983 first edition. If anyone ever needs one PM me and I'll be happy to pass it along.

I have an 860SE so I checked my paperwork and no service manual. Looking through the owners manual for service of the friction disk it says 'See your dealer'.

Does the service manual you got from B&S cover the 860 too?

Could you send me a copy also? I can’t get the outer shaft off of the inside shaft. Have it taken apart. Thanks
