2006 9.5 simplicity sno blower ight auger not turning

Hi. I have a 2006 9.5 simplicity sno blower with right auger that stopped turning. I looked at what I thought was the shear pin and it didn't look like a regular shear pin. Anyone have any experience with this model? What is the correct location of shear pin? Also the right wheel turns when it wants! I used it today and the wheel was working very strange! Any thoughts on this? Many thanks in advance!

I don't have experience with your snow blower type but I can try helping you, first the shear pin maybe just a pin with a clip or cotter pin to hold it, check the one on your left auger and it will be in the same position on the right.
For your wheel check if you have a spring clip and see if it is in the same hole as the left as there might be 2 holes per side and you should use same as left.
I've found a parts manual but not sure if it's yours. Good Luck

Snow Removal Apparatus I own:
Ariens ST1530DLE, and good ole arm powered scrapper.

I've not even been close to a Simplicity but shear pins come in different configurations, as Norm pointed out. Some are actual bolt/nut combination, some are pins and cotter key setup. They all perform the same function. They protect the gears from damage in the event you hit something and bind up the auger. If you have a broken one it can be a pain to locate but the easiest way is to just look at the auger on the opposite side and the pin hole will be the same location or may possibly be 90 opposed. You may have to look very close because the "sheared" pin can be difficult to distingjish from the rest of the axle. When you locate it simply drive it out with a hammer and punch. If it won't come out easily try rotating your auger axle 180 and do it from that side. Replace with the same type. Do not use a bolt from your supply. Use the correct replacement otherwise you run the risk of serious damage to your blower. Something else. If you have the blot/nut setup do not overtighten the nut on the new shear pin. It has to be left loose enough that the auger isn't bound down to the shaft. Usually I tighten them up a little snug and then back the nut off a little bit. Maybe a whole turn or so.
Your wheel is moving freely probably because it has a clip type retainer that needs to go through the wheel to lock it in place. There should be two holes in your axle and you want to line your wheel hole up to the inner hole and install the clip pin through the wheel and axle.
Hope this helps. If you don't have an owner's manual try' to find on online in downloadable PDF format. It can literally be a lifesaver. Remove plug wire before performing any maintenance!

Maybe this will help or at least give some pointers. Not sure if it's the correct manual but it will give you safety tips and probanly answer some general maintenance questions.
