Simplicity 7-55 #1691413

I have a Simplicity 7-55 with a 3-speed transmission. The 7hp dual shaft Tecumseh engine seized and I'd like to replace it with a Predator 6.75hp single shaft. My drive is powered off the camshaft though that rotates opposite the crankshaft. Is there any way to adjust the transmission to function with the same rotation as the crankshaft? I've seen other cub cadet a handle on the back of the blower that can be flipped to accomplish this.

Hi Flashdog
Welcome to the Forum. Unfortunately there is no easy fix that I know of for your situation. Some have run the transmission from anther sheave on the driveshaft with a twist in the belt to reverse directions, but this is not always practical due to space. But you should be able to find a dual shaft engine with a little searching on Craig's...or maybe get your engine going again. When you say "seized", do you mean stuck? MH

Hi Motorhead,

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, it's the answer I was expecting.

The oil went low on the Tecumseh and it slammed to an immediate stop. I can't pull the rope more than a few inches. The shafts can still be manual rotated a little. I've tried putting some penetrating oil in the cylinder but that hasn't worked. I see you're from the area so you know it's slim pickings for engines on craigslist right now and prices are super high.

Do you know if I put the Predator on and leave the rotation in the wrong direction will the transmission function as 1 FWD speed and 3 REV speeds?

Yes, it will just go backwards on you. The other issue will be it will now be twice as fast.

You might be able to get away with finding a 6 or 7 HP Tecumseh the same as yours and move your camshaft and front cover over to the new engine. This will give you the dual shafts as long as those pieces are not damaged.

Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.

Someone on here ran like 3 extra idler pulleys around the engine and drove it off the back side of the belt as well.

I've been thinking of trying extra pulleys, but I'm about ready to concede that I just need to find a used compatible engine and return the Predator. I really like the idea of putting on a brand new engine though.
