Craftsman 536.886180 chute only turns one left

Four year old Craftsman 536.886180 and the chute only turns left. I checked under the cover to view the pinion and it is engaged with the chute gear teeth so it isn't a problem there. Removing the pinion of the motor revealed that the motor is only turning one way when switch is pressed.
Could a simple wiring problem be responsible?
Other posters here suggest cold temps might be an issue, but wouldn't that be for turning either both ways?
If the motor has failed, why would still work left but not right?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I suspect the switch is not making contact in one direction. MH

I am assuming this is similar to a power window setup. Pull the switch and if there are 2 wires coming out of it, switch them and see if the direction it works then it's the switch. Could be a 3 wire setup, one common and 2 for direction, same thing.
