2018 season false start, auger belt question

Snow started during the night and this evening we had about 6 inches. Time for the first snowblower session for the season.

I dress up, get to the shed and start the machine. As soon as I engage the auger, the belt snaps. When I did the maintenance & checkup a few weeks ago everything ran fine.

This belt has seen about 30 hours of runtime since new (changed early 2017).

Luckily I had a spare belt on hand and was back on duty within 20 minutes.

How long do belts last on average ?

I did expect years of duty from this new belt.

It could be an anomaly? Make sure everything is aligned, rare but it does happen, happened to me. Last year I was snowblowing a neighbor, stopped the machine to talk to him, put it in gear and the belt started smoking. Few days later put a new belt on and it kept coming off. The idler pulley was out of align. Bent it back and it's fine now.

We'll see how this new one does. It's a different brand. It doesn't seem too tight, neither did the old one.

I get worried by non factory belts. I got burned , literally, once on a older ariens. The wrapped belt would fir, but slipped horribally, getting smoking hot. The new factory belt gripped fine. Close wasnt close enough.

OVERPOWERED is usually Adequate
