Engine runs hot and then shuts down

I have an Ariens 921 Series Sno -Thro snowblower. The other day while running after about 10 minutes the engine shut down. Upon inspecting it I noticed that the engine was extremely hot. I checked the oil and the oil level was slightly low but it did have oil.

I am not exactly certain what could be wrong.

In my experience with small engines in general, other than the oil or obvious things like clogged fins, the problem is usually a fuel-air mixture that's too lean, most commonly from clogged jets, a maladjusted float (too high), a maladjusted mixture control (if present and adjustable), a clogged fuel filter, or a leaky carburetor gasket.
