Starter for old John Deere 832

I bought a great old John Deere 832 this summer for my girlfriend. It runs great but she just can’t pull hard enough to get it started. I bought what I thought was the correct starter off eBay but it doesn’t extend the gear far enough to engage the ring gear on the flywheel. The starter is working properly and the gear is extending as far as it can. The eBay add said it would fit a 726 but I assumed it’d work. The snowblower was built in 1973 which was the first year for a 8hp Tecumseh on a John Deere snowblower. Does it take a different starter with a gear that extends a little further? If so, does someone have a part number for the starter I should be using?

The engine numbers are:
HM80
155013 (3 might be an 8)
Serial#2228D

33 woodie is correct, a 7 hp Tecumseh starter wil not fit or work on an 8 hp.
A 120 volt starter for a tecumseh 7 hp , is a #33328 starter , for a 8hp you need a 33329 .

Ariens 924334 11 hp 28
Ariens 924024 8 hp 32 now a 10 hp
Ariens 910008 7 hp 24

Otterby, where are you located? I'm in Ontario, I have a starter off a 1979 MTD. with a 8HP tecumseh, starter number is 33329C. It works and its free but the shipping probably be steep....

NO! the letter is just the latter model of the earlier one.

ex. TECUMSEH: 33329, 33329C, 33329D, 33329E, 37000 are all the same item
