Tecumseh float needle clip direction

For years I put the "spring" wire clip connecting the inlet valve to the float any which way. Then few years ago I read on the net that the open end of the clip goes towards the choke/air filter opening otherwise it could cause problems. ??? I've never had problems regarding the clip direction. Comments?

I never knew!! Didnt think it mattered. But Tecumseh site says long end should be toward the choke/ air cleaner. Great info! Thanks!

Donyboy has a YouTube video that tells the recommended way but he says it seems to work either way.

"How to clean and repair a Tecumseh ( type 3 series) carburetor".
