Give in auger shaft

Looking for some advice.

I have a Craftsman model # 917.881061, purchased in 2007.

There is a lot of give in the auger shaft, as shown here:

I've noticed its clogging up a lot more frequently this season with wet, heavy snow, and I'm assuming its lost some of its throwing power because of this issue.

I was thinking about getting a new snowblower in the next couple years, and I'm wondering if its worth fixing my current machine, or putting that money towards a newer machine.

Thanks for sharing your expertise!

Does that have a full width auger shaft? Some of the newer ones have a shorter shaft and the bearings on the end just have a short sleeve that fits into them and the end of the auger rakes. I've seem them kittywompus before and the auger rakes wobbled all over the place.
