Just thinking...

Question for the group:

I own an Ariens 926068 HydroPro 28 EFI. This machine comes from the factory with a 14" 3 blade impeller. I am just into my second year with this blower and to me it seems like it does not throw the snow as far as my old 924116. Now before everyone jumps in on belts slipping, adjustments etc, it is all up to snuff and understand about the impeller mods with rubber to fill the gap. I am thinking about the impeller for this discussion.

Now, would I get better performance by switching to a 14" 4 blade impeller? The shaft diameters are the same between them and assume that the roll pin holes would line up as well. I think I also have enough front to back clearance for the 4 blade impeller.

To me I would think the throwing distance would be better as it is throwing a smaller glob of snow vs the larger 3 blade glob.

The one thing that would slow this mod down for me is the possibility of voiding the warranty.

Your turn with thoughts and comments.

It would be great if someone had physically tried it to know if there was any benefit. I'm thinking on a machine that's almost $3K the factory would have added the one blade if it made a noticeable difference. BUT . . . . I'm sure going with just three does save in materials and labor and some bean counter might have won the argument with an engineer over it. They might be operating on the assumption that the three blade does well enough.
If you can get a four blade cheap or free it might be worth a try. I would just hate to see you go through all that trouble and not have a noticeable gain.

I would be more inclined to try and boost the impeller RPM just a bit with a larger engine pulley. That way you know you're going to pump more snow out the chute.

Make sure the windows are up before the snow plow goes by !!
