Broken snowblower

This is what happened today while clearing snow ,heard ticking them shrapnel flying 🙂 ,it is a 20ish year old Mastercard with a techumseh engine.Can anyone tell why this happened and is it worth fixing thank you

If I had to guess, someone at some point ran it without oil or very low on oil, or even maybe tried 30W oil in the winter.

Just swap it out for a 99.00 Predator and your all set for a long time.

It may have happened because of too high RPMs or damage had occurred previously due to low oil and it was inevitable.

Is there a Harbor Freight near you? Chinese Predator engine for $99.

Can you remove the belt cover and snap a picture of the belts?
Might not be so easy if it's dual shaft.

unless these old eyes are deceiving me,i sure don't see a lot of oil out of that aerated block.it looks way to dry. time for a repower

All I know is I checked the oil last week and the dipstick said full ,then when I was snow blowing today I heard a pinging/knocking sound and the hoe blew out
