replacing auger belt

i HAVE A CRAFTSMAN 8.5 27" SNOW BLOWER .
i HAVE REMOVED THE TOP BELT COVER AND CAN SEE THE BELT NEEDS REPLACING (IT'S OFF THE PULLYS) .
mY QUESTION IS THIS--CAN i SIMPLY REMOVE AND REPLACE BY SLIPPING IT ON AND OFF ? oR IS THIS A MAJOR REPAIR ?

Just a followup to my own post------

I popped the top and bottom cover--then with the aid of a screwdriver and a few taps of a hammer---squeezed it by !
In case anyone has a similar problem .

Didn't think I was being ignored .
I was kinda being a little lazy (shoulda pulled it apart from the get--and I woulda seen the solution ) and seein as it was a little early in the season Figured that was just the way it was
