826 John Deere Snowblower Pulley position

I have replaced the engine on my JD 826 walk behind snowblower and I didn't realize the pulley has one side bigger than the other. I am looking for advice on which way it goes back on the engine shaft, the larger side is closer or farther from the engine. Thanks.

Usually the side with the collar faces the engine, however it really doesn't matter. The important thing is to have as much of the pulley on the crankshaft as possible and to have both pulleys line up so the belt stays on track. I have installed them backwards on some machines just because they fit better that way.

Actually, I just re-read your question. If you have 2 pulleys and are asking which way the collar goes see the above answer. If you have a single pulley with both belts connected then the smaller one is used for the drive wheels and the larger for the auger on all models I have seen.

Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.
