snowflite only works at higher speed

I picked this unit up used. It ran, but had little forward power. It only ran a bit at the higher speed settings. I assumed the rubber drive wheel needed to be replaced. With the new wheel it has plenty of drive power, but only at reverse and the higher settings. There is no power at the lower settings.

I did clean off the disk that drives the rubber wheel, but I was wondering if I should lightly sand it to score it a bit.

Failing that, I was wondering if there was something else that I was missing.....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Have you adjusted your drive belt?

Do you have a model number? Maybe with that we can find an exploded diagram, and point you in the right direction.

Well, I wish I had better news about finding something that would help, but I have not.

Is there a chance at taking and posting some pics of the machine?

I hope to have a better look at the machine tomorrow, weather permitting. What specifically would you like pics of?

I have a 1984 Montgomery Ward/MTD snowblower that is the same as your Snowflite. Here is a pic of a page from the owners manual that deals with adjustment of the drive clutch rod.

Hope it helps.
