Got My New CCR2450 - A Few Maintenance Questions

Got my $200 Craigslist special CCR 2450 before summer was out! Unfortunately just getting to running it now when I need it. 1st off, is there a specific owners manual and service manual I can download for this thing? My model # is 38515.

Seems the fuel tank is cracked so I'll need one of those.

Is this unit supposed to have a chute control rod? Wish mine did.

The pull start stays out about 6 inches after starting. It can be finessed back in. Is this worth worrying about at this point?

Mine doesn't say it but I've seen other CCR2450's that say Guaranteed to Start. What do these have that mine doesn't?? I had to drip a little gas in the carb to get it started initially and since, it takes about 10 good pulls. The gas was a few months old and I still have yet to try er with new gas. And aside from a new plug and fuel filter, anything else I should count on replacing at this point? How do the carbs hold up on these? Are they like the S200s where you should put a new diaphragm in every other year?

2450's don't have a diaphragm in the carb
all r-tek motor are guaranteed to start
you'll need some fresh gas, add some seafoam to help clean the carb
change the fuel filter and sparkplug
go on toro's website and download the owners manual
there is a service manual on our website
check the scraper bar and paddles for wear

Thanx!

Trying to determine which manual I'll need; Toro CCR 2450

Mine isn't marked as a GTS and again, my model # is 38515.

Should this unit have a chute control rod or is it possible to instal one fairly easily?

if you use the serial number along with the model number it will tell what year your machine is and which manuals to get. other than the body style there isn't much of a difference between the arly 2450's and later 2450's with the more rounded body style
no 2450's did not come with a chute crank, its faster to just move it where you want it anyway
I guess if you got the parts needed from a 3650 or 2000 you could add the crank

Fuel tank repair

There is a special epoxy for repairing fuel tanks that you might consider (depending on the cost of the tank). It's resistant to the deteriorating effects of gasoline. I used it on my riding mower tank and it worked fine and has held up for 3 years now. You should be able to find it in an auto parts store.

Thanx for the epoxy idea! Just bought some and applied it.

Which way should the rule filter be oriented on this thing? There is no indicator on the filter. It seems to be halfed together... a larger diameter and a smaller. Which side goes towards the carb?

While I have the lid off, I've tried spraying WD40 in to the pull start winder to get it retracting all the way in. It has seems to have helped some but it still gets caught up and doesn't quite retract all the way in. It's just a matter of giving it a little tug and it will retract in but would be nice to get it working properly. Any suggestions?

take the shroud and pull starter off, remove the starter pulley, and lube the spring with a 50/50 mix of motor oil and transmission fluid. reassemble and replace rope well your at it. after that you should be good to go

If fuel flow is critical, the filters will be marked with an arrow indicating flow direction. If this is a red plastic filter, it can face either way.

Here is a link to the Toro single stage repair manual. I hope this helps.
