Tecumseh Engine Model #

I have an older MTD 5/24 snowblower with a tecumseh snowking engine. I have been having issues with power loss under load. I cleaned the carb, governor works properly, so i was just going to replace the carburetor but cannot find the engine model number anywhere on the engine/snowblower. The owners manual i have is for models hsk30, hsk35, hssk40, and hssk50. Where can i find the correct model number, I just want to be sure I pick the correct replacement carburetor? Thanks everyone!

Welcome to SBF username !!!

That has to be one of the most creative handles on the entire internet!

Engine model number is usually on the shroud...if your engine has electric start, it is probably under the start button assy.

Often times when the engine is a dog under load, it's a compression issue...commonly attributed to valves &/or bad head gasket. Are you able to check compression?

Check out Dave C's thread.

It may be on top of the engine shroud on the sheet metal begin the plug. If you have an electric start, the start button assembly may be screwed down on top of it. Or it may be on an ID plate or sticker on the side of the shroud.

As a starting point, it should be HSSK50 since you say your MTD is 5 HP.

Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.
