Heater box

The point where the heater box on my Tecumseh HS50 connects to the muffler rusted away and broke off. I can't keep it attached anymore. Any harm in running it without it? I did the other day and it seemed to run fine.

The carb will usually ice up without it, and sometimes the governor linkage will freeze. These can usually be found used at a small engine repair shop.

Just do a repair on it. Pop rivet some thin sheet metal (small peice can be bought cheap at HD or Lowes) to it and spray paint it black. It will look Ok and do it's job, keep the cold air and blowing snow at bay.

The meltdown is under way ...
