FYI - Long term storage & fuel

Here's a picture of what happens when you let fuel in your system for a year or so. My brother-in-law said his engine would start but wouldn't stay running. I cleaned this mess out and cleared jets. It runs now. Just a word to the wise not to let fuel in your system for very long. I think the gasoline today is worse than ever. I have seen 4 carbs like this in just the past few months.

Did he use a fuel stabilizer? I used Sta-Bil in the fuel of my Cub and Ariens for storage, but use the fake gas stuff in the Toro. It's supposed to have a long shelf life.

I've been running ethanol free in mine, but haven't heard anything about how well this works?

This does not look like a year old fuel left in there, I've had quiete a few old small engines with fuel for over a year, but never seen them close to this, to me this looks more like water intrusion. Was it stored outside?

I use the Marine Grade Sta-Bil and knock on wood....never had a problem with long term storage with any small engine equipment. No question that ethanol gas needs treatment for long term storage. I'm an advocate for using Sta-Bil treated gas in all small engines regardless if the machine is being stored for one day or one year.

Same here. I'm a regular user of the Marine Sta-bil or StarTron.

I am still using 1 and a half year old gas in the mower and never had a problem with it. no additives. I just let it starve it self of fuel. and put it away till next time.

Long LIVE THE POWERSHIFT!! MAY IT NEVER RUST IN PEACE!!
