Converting 724 to have lighting Coil

Hello everyone.. New here as of today. I'm a die hard old school Ariens guy. Got an old 724 with Tucumseh power and I wanna convert it to have a lighting coil. Anyone have any input on what part # from Tecumseh I can use to convert this machine?.. I've tried to scroll through the internet but have come up empty handed.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a flywheel with two coils, and a stator to match. I don't know part #s, but your best bet is to check those old lawn mower shops you see along the road with a lot of machines in the yard.People will come on with the part #s for you'

to SBF Mc68671. The information you need is dependent on what the model and spec number is on YOUR motor. There are numbers stamped into the top of the recoil shroud just in front of the spark plug. If you have electric start, you will have to remove the switch assembly to see the numbers underneath and someone here will be glad to help once we know what you have.

Toro 8/24 (38080) 1989

Thanks for the feedback. I do not have electric start on this one. I can grab the numbers off the shroud when I go back in the garage.

Assuming it uses the same as a 10 hp would, you're going to need 2 main assemblies: the flywheel and the pickup. The flywheel likely will have magnets around the perimeter of it. Along with that, the pickup is incorporated with the coil inside the flywheel. You're going to have to change that out, meaning you're also going to have to retime the engine.

I've done it having to fully break down an engine I was rebuilding. It's not terribly difficult but you have to follow the instructions exactly to get it to run. I found them on the web somewhere, so I can't give you details at the moment.

Hello Mc. I'm afraid I have some bad news. You said the machine was a 7/24 which means 7 hp 24" width bucket. The engine numbers you posted are for a 5 hp motor which makes me believe the engine was replaced at some point. The bad news is, they do not make alternator systems for that size motor.

Interesting. Machine came from an old timer who bought it brand new and it has the original motor on it.. But when I run the numbers off the machine it comes back as 724.. I'm gonna double check the numbers off the machine..
