Need help with auger grease please.

I have a Craftsman 8hp 25 inch blower that I believes dates back to the 80s. It is a Canadian C950-52677-7. I would like to add fluid/grease to the auger as it has never been done. The only manual I have is for a C950-52477-5. It states that the auger grease should be grade 00 EP grease. The local dealer cannot supply it and recommends 80-90 wt gear oil or Bentonite.
Does anyone out there have this blower? It is orange and silver. What do you use? I can source Snapper grade 00 through Amazon or order it from Tractor Supply in Maine. Can't find any in New Brunswick near Saint John.
Or am I going down the wrong path and should I just go with the gear oil? The repair shop said they never heard of any snowblower using 00 grade grease in the gearbox. Am I following the wrong manual? It seems to work while ordering other parts(I replaced axle, bearings, friction wheel etc. using the part numbers from it.)

Thank you in advance for your help and opinions.

gear oil is what you want. Trust a good repair shop for the recommendations since they service them quite often.

Gear oil only works for gearboxes that are sealed well. If you put oil in one intended to have grease, the oil will leak out. The 00 grease should work fine. It is pretty much what MTD uses in some of the cheaper ones. I bought a tube of 00 for use in my aluminum Ariens gearbox.

00 grease is kind of like a 50/50 gear oil / bearing grease mix. Not quite as liquid as gear oil, but no where near as thick as wheel bearing grease.

Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.

Shryp's post is dead on. The only risk in using 90wt is that it may leak out.
