Only reverse and 5th

A friend called about his Simplicity 860. He said his blower would only move in reverse and 5th speed. This is a friction disc machine. I thought this was rather weird and no typical of shifter rod being out of adjustment. Anyone have an idea that I can talk him through?

I would suspect a worn disk or loose belt. He can try adjusting the tension on the cable for the drive pulley and see if it helps....

Probably the friction disc needs some adjustment and the bearings for the assembly are wearing out causing some play.

Please direct all snow blower questions to the forums and not to me with PMs.
