How to remove gearbox plug?

My gearbox is seeping and I want to add some gear oil.
This plug looks plastic, so I wanted some advice before I try to remove it.
Does it pop off with a screw driver? Is it threaded?
It's on an old Monkey Wards/MTD blower, early 80's vintage.

An open box wrench or a small adjustable wrench would likely work well for the job as you probably already know, it looks like your auger rake is cracked.
