Simplicity 860 DLX Scraper Bar ?

Over the long Labor Day weekend while watching the kids outside, I decided to pull out my snowblower and take a general once over look of it to see if there was anything I needed before the upcoming season and start it up.

Engine-wise, no issues...other than the few dirty looks from neighbors who keeping wishing for year round 80+ degree weather.

Skids....those were one of the things I was looking at replacing with the armorskids this fall...and while looking, I noticed once of my skids must have either slipped up or banged up causing the scraper bar to wear uneven last winter.

With the nearest parts dealer for Simplicity an hour away, wanted to see if anyone knew if the simplicity wear bar cross references with other models (I believe it is part # 1709946ASM...I didn't have any luck finding anything to support that thought) and for those of you that do order parts online, any particular website as it may not be worth my time to drive over paying shipping.

Lastly, has anyone ever made their own scraper bar to replace the thin steel one with something thicker (1/4" or 1/2" steel?) Might not be something easily done as I want to think the holes are square on the scraper bar.

I did look at doing the Clarence impeller mod...but with a 1/4" gap and the high humidity...I tabled it until I figure out if it will benefit much with the wet snow or not....and it isn't quite as sticky outside.

I've made a number of scraper bars in the past. Most I make out of 1/8" or 3/16" steel. If the holes are square, you can drill them then use the correct size square or triangle file and hand file them to square. I have not tried to sharpen the lead edge, left it either slightly rounded or square depending on the metal used.

If your time is worth something, it's a break even on making your own if you can find a replacement. Most of these were for units I could not find a replacement available anywhere.
