Help with small engine

I know this is a snowblower forum but I really need some help with my lawn mower, so please forgive me.

I've had a John Deere D140 for 4 years now (I bought it new). I've been naughty, typically run E10 93 octane in it and never stabilized it. NEVER had any issues.

But since being here on SBF, you've all convinced me to modify my habits and switch to stabilized E0.

Today was my last time mowing the lawn for the season. I had about a 1/4 tank of the E10 in it. My plan was to start mowing the lawn, knowing I'd run out of gas and then put the stabilized E0 in it. That would give the E0 the opportunity to run through the whole system.

I got about 1/3 of the way through the lawn and ran out of gas as planned, put the new E0 in it and now I cannot get it start back up for the life of me. I have NEVER had a problem like this.

Any ideas?

Lots of times my mowers dont start right up in the spring. A little gas in the plug hole will usually do the trick. Not much thou. Dip the thread end in the gas and reinstall the plug or a half spoon full into the cylinder. should work fine once it starts the first time.
You may have picked up some dirt from the bottom of the tank. If so a carb clean may be needed.

Me too. No, on my mower, it won't even turn over if the PTO is engaged. And it was turning over...and over...and over...and over...and over...and over.

or jhust pull off the air filter cap and give it a hit of carb cleaner-no choke

take the plug out to see if it is wet. is so then it was flooded.

turn key off and pull starter cord 10 times to clear out excess fuel. then turn key on and it should start.

( this will work if it was flooded )

I suspected it may be flooded as well, even though I didn't smell gas. I let it sit for 40 minutes and tried to start it again and still nothing. It continued to turn over and over but never "grabbed", which I found odd. It was as though there was still no gas in it or the choke wasn't on at all. To boot, it has no starter cord. Very, very weird.

well, if you think it's not getting gas, take the bowl off and turn gas on and see if it flows. I had this happen with a blower when i let it run out of gas and would not restart after putting new gas in.

the carb was clogged. i took the bowl off , the float out and sprayed carb cleaner up the pick up tube and the float valve seat. then tried opening gas valve again and the gas flowed. guess i got lucky. put everything back together and it started easy.
