Craigslist vs other venues...

Since the inception of Craigslist, it's been my go-to venue for buying/selling items locally.

As a seller, some items that need a larger audience, I use eBay.

KSL classifieds is great in the Salt Lake City area, but nothing like that in the Denver area.

Lately, I've had far better luck as a seller with Facebook Marketplace.
Last Sunday I listed a Porter Cable pancake compressor on both Craigslist and Facebook.
Within 3 hours I had 22 responses from Facebook and one from Craigslist.
By Monday evening when I sold it, I had 36 from Facebook and 3 from Craigslist.

Searching for "new" listings on Facebook, since I don't have a phone or tablet with an app is a challenge. They don't have a filter to show just items posted in the last 24 hrs and they are not ordered from newest to oldest either.
Facebook also does not show how long an item has been posted beyond a week.
It just says "more than a week ago", could be 8 days or 8 months.
Still needs some work !

I've also used Offerup, Letgo, and VarageSale with varying results. VarageSale is pretty much a waste of time though.

There seem to be more new snowblower listings each day on Facebook than on Craigslist.

Have you found any other Craigslist alternatives that work for you?
There are some others than are more specific, like furniture only, or just clothing, but I have not tried any of those yet.

Nextdoor.com

it's nice selling/buying from neighbors. on Nextdoor you are supposed to use your real name which helps in screening people.

craigslist works well for me but you have to screen the flakes. i came up with a system to ask their name and/or phone number and then use a reverse directory/google to confirm and get an address.

My local craigslist is just about dead. Mostly being kept alive by flippers and spammers...
I'm told that facebook market place is pretty active.

I once had a guy offer a trade. Said he was from a place about 3 hours away, and wanted to meet in a town about and hour away. On a whim I looked his phone number up in a reverse directory to find he lived in the town where he wanted to meet

craigslist seems to attract more super cheap people then the others, everything i have sold on it, the buyers agree to then try and back the price down latter, maybe it's a jersey thing but i gave up with it, went back to the local newspaper .
ebay ? i'll buy if it's a good price on a buy it now, sell the %age they take is unreal
i wanted to sell a rare vintage factory cast ford 427 highriser nascar tunnel ram 2x4 intake manifold 1 of about 400 made, they would have taken close to 20% in the end , the manifold still sits here waiting for word of mouth to sell it ,

Final value fees on eBay are 10%, but I sold a tool just last week for $110 and their final value fee was $3.49.
Maybe they were having a promotion at the time.
First 50 listings per month, they don't charge a listing fee, just a final value fee.
When I was a power seller on eBay 12 years ago, they only charged 2.5% for the final value fee.

I don't list a phone number as a seller, but I do say in the ads on Craigslist that I won't respond to anyone without a name and phone number.

i got tired of all these people so never post a phone number. i'll ask a question or 2 to their email reply. most of the time i don't hear back so know they are not serious.

if they reply , then i know they are a potential buyer.

it used to be for every 10 replies, only one person was serious enough to come look at my item. now with my new screening process , i only get 1-3 replies but they all come and look at it.

Try Gumtree or OfferUp as two of the best alternatives.
