grilled beets ?

anyone ever grilled beets ? i see a few recipes online but have never tried. in a bit of a situation in the garden.......beets are ready to be turned into pickled beets, but its waaayyy to hot to be cooking inside ! heat advisories most days for the last while and more to come.

I have but I prefer to bake them or fry them in oil and butter. If you bake them in the oven or grill, you should wrap them in aluminum foil as they dry out.

thanks for the tip on them drying out, the recipe i was looking at said to slice , coat with olive oil and put directly on the grill.

The olive oil prevents sticking and drying out, adds flavor. If you do it the grill, you have to cut them thick. An advantage to wrapping them, you can season them, even with some liquids, salad dressing, ..... A grill is very hot, you don't want to burn the olive oil, or the vegetables. I'd keep one burner off and once the grill is hot, then turn it down and put the vegetables on the side the burner is off.

i seared them on the bottom grate , then moved em up to the warming rack , wrapped in foil with the lid open. hopefully they (it....one beet as big as a softballl sliced into half inch thick slices ) will be fit to eat. lol
