Question New generator - never added gas

I bought a new portable gasoline generator last fall (2018). I assembled it, added oil, but never added gas.

Could sitting idle in my garage long-term with oil but no gas cause any problems?

There's a wrinkle, which is that the unit is a Generac EFI that needs to have its battery maintained, but I've got that covered.

Garage
I don't see any problems with leaving oil in it and never adding gas. You should be able to fire it up when you add gas without any problems since you have the EFi battery covered.

I agree with Miles, no issue with letting it sit. The machine might sit on a warehouse shelf for a few years or even longer with no ill effects, except perhaps the battery. Adding oil won't change that.

The main reason they often ship without oil is so that it won't spill out if some yahoo doesn't know what "This side up" means.

yup you should be ok. if it is not too hard of a job it would probably be better to disconnect 1 of the battery terminals just to make sure there is no ghost drain. i find doing so usually helps prolong a batteries life.

Thanks all.

I have disconnected the EFI battery and I monitor its voltage with a multimeter. I also bought some long, flimsy jumper cables so I can jump it from a car if necessary.

Of course, the entire unit could end up being DOA due to a manufacturing defect or unseen shipping damage, so I have to just cross my fingers that it works once I gas it up!
