He should get a sentence that puts him underwater until he passes out. Maybe he'd understand the dog's suffering.

Sounds like leveling every charge they can is the only way to club some sense into him.

All he had to do was lower the windows some just in case and the dog would have had a chance. To bad the guy who was smart enough to get out didn't take the dog with him. Well that and the guy die from natural selection for being stupid.

Driving out onto a river isn't an accident, it's intentional.

Rolo RIP

Driver charged when truck sank in Toms River

They are also looking to have the driver pay all expenses for emergency response, and the clean up of oil/gas and removal of truck when the ice melts.

Good. As they should. Though I highly doubt he has a pot to pi$$ in. Garnish his wages for the rest of his life if that's what needs to be done.

At least the passenger had the good sense to get out before he drove out onto the ice.

Yes, they should charge him every penny of all the expenses involved in the emergency personnel's time and equipment, as well as all the costs for dragging that truck back up out of the river. Plus, his picture should be posted on the front page of the news paper everyday for weeks and he should never be allowed to own a pet of any kind again.

I'm pretty much retired from the forum thing, but I check in every now and then.

I think he was just stupid. He probably drove across the river the day before and the day before that with no problem. This day was different. People here drive on the Shediac river everyday and onto the bay for smelting. They are not charged for careless driving.

If you read the article it doesn't say anything about him driving across on that day or any other day.

It very clearly states that a passenger got out before he went out onto the ice and he was seen doing donuts out on the ice.
Passenger getting out would indicate the passenger didn't want to be part of what he knew the driver was going to do.

It was no accident. If it was a human he would be guilty of manslaughter as he caused the death of his dog and caused the loss of the vehicle and caused the pollution of the river (gas & oil).

We have a tradition of ice fishing in this area and I understand going out on the ice in a vehicle. I even understand guys who like to run their snowmobiles across open water for the thrill and bragging rights, but not with a pet strapped to it. Those guys check the thickness of the ice. This guy according to the article was only going out on the ice to goof off.

I just can't feel any pity for someone that irresponsible.
