Today, 40 years ago the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. All 29 men perished.

I remember it like it was yesterday, crew member oiler Thomas D. Bentsen 23 years of age was from my area. I grew up on the Great Lakes. The Great Lakes can be brutal.

the Arthur m. Anderson had the mighty Fitz on radar when it went down. they were also in radio contact, last message " we are taking on water but holding our own "
if I remember right the mighty Fitz had lost her radar
today is also the birthday for the marines, happy birthday to all jarheads and thank you for your service

I too was reminded of the Fitz when I heard the song on XM. One of my favorite songs, and yet one of the saddest songs. I love ships and maritime related stuff.
