I have a 1960 Ariens Snowblower (Many thanks to Scot Lawerence's site, I do have the geared drive train and the between handlebar shifter).

I this latest storm I lost transfer of power from the engine to the blower or drive under any stress. It looks to me like there is a "coupler" made of two notched cylinders than align to drive everything when the lever is engaged. I think that one of them slipped out of place and the notches aren't aligned/connected anymore.

Do I just loosen the bolts on one, slide it back in place and retighten?

On something that old you should see a ghost of where one of the two parts used to sit on it's shaft. If you put it back in place and tighten down the set screw you should be good.

Allen Bolt Probably Loosened up. Slide the Coupler Together, and tighten the Allen on the Jaw Clutch. Done. No Need to Split the machine. Frog Beat Me to the Punch.
