Folks, I have an older Ariens 824 and need to replace the idler arm spring behind the engine sheave. I have tried loosening the sheave nut and cant get it to move. It looks like normal direction threads and I dont see any pins. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you sure you can't get to the spring with it in place? I pulled one off a smaller compact blower, but don't remember how I held it still. I think mine might have had a hole in it and I held it still with a screwdriver.

It will Come off if You Heat it Cherry Red with a Torch. Regular Threads IIRC.

Thanks Shyrp & Jackmels. It's tight behind the sheave and I cant see in there well enough to manipulate the spring to where it needs to go. I will try removing the sheave nut with the torch and let you know how it goes.

If all else fails, take it apart from the other side a bit and maybe you can get the pulley and shaft to come out the front togetber
