I replaced the carb with a new one same problem. Valves have perfect clearances, new gas, tank vents properly plenty of fuel flow. Wont keep running backfiring. Any ideas out there? Maybe keyway worn or coil loose or bad?.

Flywheel magnet shifted/broke, bad plug wire, out of time on point system, pinched or chaffed coil wire, bad plastic coil insulated block, internal engine damage, etc., etc.??... could be a lot of things

Maybe keyway worn
Yep, if your model has a flywheel that has a single perm magnet screwed/glued to the outside of the flywheel itself, that type mag can't really move much to lose timing, BUT if the woodruff key shears, the flywheel now can spin/rotate about the crankshaft....POOF! Bad timing, won't run AND backfiring!

A looser then norm torque spec flywheel nut almost always gets you a sheared off woodruff key........Pull the flywheel to check, easy peasy.
