Starting issues with Ariens Deluxe 28 model 921022. Spark plug new and fuel clean including carb. Gas filter?
Sources saying filter is in the gas tank which is not serviceable.
Can anyone help with this?

I would put a spark tester and confirm adequate spark however seeing it sputters i would be ok with that for now. Next I would deal with the fuel delivery side and you can take the fuel line off the carb and see that fuel will gravity feed out the hose at an adequate level as that will rule out any filter or hose blocking/deterioration concerns. I understand you say you have clean fuel but change it out new fuel, will eliminate bad gas or water in the gas. With those things you should have spark, fuel and fuel delivery from tank so now onto the more likely concern of fuel delivery into the engine in cleaning the carburetor itself, from gummed up & blocked passages, gummed up needle valve, clogged jets, water droplets in the bowl….either way a thorough cleaning will go a long way here. Carb cleaner down the throat of the carb is always good to see if it will sputter which you have confirmed it did so that is why fuel related is my first bet. Once that is done we can go onto other items like timing, valve adjustment, etc however spark, fuel deliver, compression, timing are things to hon into.

Plenty of more experienced gentlemen will put forth their thoughts shortly.

Cheers.

I have as well with a generator carburetor.
It was taken apart. Trying to solve the start problem without doing that again.
you haven’t said anything about the gas filter? Ariens deluxe 28 model 921022 with Briggs and Stratton engine. (Ok if you don’t know, has me confused) if it’s in the tank then no way to access

If you pull the hose off of the carburetor input inlet then you will see the flow of gas to the carb and at that point doesn’t matter if the machine has a filter or not as gas flow would have been established and verified. When you put that hose to a container to drain you will also be able to look for contaminants such as gritty particles or rubber particles due to the hose breaking down by decay or other reason at which point you can address that issue if one is present. Don’t know why the obsession with the filter when you can ascertain fuel flow and other issues incredibly easy with just testing at the hose itself which would be after any filter if there is one.

For the carburetor do the correct thing, take it off and clean it properly. Also seems to be obsessed on not taking the carburator off and doing a right proper cleaning. Use the old tried and true carb cleaner with torch cleaning tips and should you have an ultrasonic cleaner it is useful but not mandatory.

If you are not wanting to clean the carb then perhaps a new carb, have no additional advice.

Out...

Cheers.
