Ariens ST1032 Engine Replacement

I have an Ariens ST1032, Model 924084, s/n 101396 with a Tecumseh HMSK100 - 159119V 10HP engine. Can someone recommend a replacement engine that has the correct mounting bolt pattern, and shaft diameter/length?

It seems this engine for this snowblower is no longer available. I've heard about the Predator replacement engines from Northern Tool/Harbor Freight, but the mounting bolt pattern appears different.

My engine is 20+ years old, low on compression, and the machine could use a new power plant.

Hope someone out here has some options since I'm at the end of my rope trying to find a solution.

Thanks!!

What your looking for, for ease of installation, is the crankshaft diameter, the height of the crankshaft and the base bolt pattern.

You can find this information on any engine spec sheet, usually in pdf format.

Many brands out there .... Predator, PowerMore, B&S, DuroMax, Xtremepower, etc ......

Thanks! I have the mech dwg for the Tecumseh HMSK100, that spec the bolt pattern, shaft spec, and height to horizontal shaft. Trouble is, I am having a hard time finding an engine out there that matches the HMSK100 specs. I looked at a couple of Predators and no dice. Does anyone have make/model recommendations. I cannot be the only one out there with this issue.

Thanks in advance!

unfortunately all modern replacement engines in that size range use a different crankshaft height and a larger engine base plate. there is a very simple fix you just have too get belts and two belt cover riser brackets for an ariens 924071 st1136
02450751 rh riser
02450151 lh riser
07206600 traction belt
07208600 auger belt

i used these parts when i did the repower on my 924044 st1032 and after drilling the new holes everything worked out perfectly. unfortunately this is what you will have to do unless you dont mind installing a used engine. depending on where you are located i do happen to have a few used tecumseh engines but honestly i would do a valve job before putting any into service

If it was me, i would just locate a good used 10hp Tecumseh, they are out their in abundance. They can be found fairly easily being sold on craigslist, Ebay, etc. You can find them by themselves or on machines cheap! I just picked up a perfect running used 8hp Tecumseh with the electric starter at the small engine show I went to over the weekend for $50 bucks. I bought it, so I could swap a 10hp I have on a Craftsman I'm going to sell onto my ariens ST824 that is mine for the little boost in power. Also IMO, nothing beats those flathead Tecumseh Snowking engines anyway. 10hp, 358cc. A lot of the engines now ate are underrated in comparison. If it was me, I would find another good 10hp Tecumseh for a bargain. The Ariens usually uses a 1" diameter shaft, so just make sure you get one thst has the 1" shaft. Otherwise you'll need to get a shaft adapter. Besides that the Predator 212 is a great replacement. You will need a 3/4 to 1" shaft adapter. Their only rated as 212cc, but, they run at 4000-4100 rpm no problem, so their about just as powerful. For the price for a brand new engine, those are also a great option.

Can't speak about the plate, but I can say that model snowblower + that model engine are a match made in heaven - I put that same engine on my ST1032. The LCT 414 (and probably other similar engines) has a balance shaft in it so among other improvements, it has way less vibration than the original engine... and the engine has all the torque you could ever want.

Im in MA and always see Tecumseh engines for sale on CL, either separate or on machines. I have the HSK70 and love it, if anything happened to it I would try to rebuild it, within reason. But then again I find working on small engines fun. I recently picked up a pair of craftsman pressure washers with Briggs cr950 engines that were "parts only" for $25 each at Lowes, got them both running perfectly and sold one for $140 and keeping the other. It looks like the engine will fit my 1971 Sno Thro also. I was also looking around online for Tecumseh replacement engines and Briggs came up alot as being a good swap.
