Hi all

3x26 (non-HD 2013)

I broke a shear pin in the back accelerator. It appears that the flange bushing is covering the pin hole. There are 2 bushings, or there should be based upon the schematics. I moved the auger back and forth and it seems that the bushing stays with the auger. It was cold out and I got bored of playing around. I will wait for a warmer day to tackle this problem. But I do have a question:

Should the 2 bushings leave a gap in the middle where the pin should be? If so I'm guessing that the flange on the bushing wore off and the bushing slipped inside. If there should be a gap between the 2 bushings I'm guessing that I will need to take it apart and replace the bushing. Seems like a lot of trouble to replace a piece of plastic.

You made me wonder if they upgraded this part...

I looked at the latest version and there is a new part number and the back bushing seems to be integrated. But the photo of the part just shows what looks like the same bushing installed, instead of a separate part... maybe the upgrade was some glue :)

Yup, it was the flange, or lack of one that caused the problem. The bushing in the back of the rear accelerator/auger was missing the flange and that allowed the bushing to slip inward and cover the hole for the shear pin.

So, if anyone is having a issue trying to find the shear pin hole on recent MTD built snowblowers this maybe the problem. Most seem to share the same part 741-0493C. It's the third revise since the 741-0493A - not sure what the upgrade was?

Here's a link to a nice (easy) video on how to remove the auger assembly, this is for a 2x version but it was the same for the 3x model.

.I Prefer the Traditional Style Augers. Will be interested to see if they Continue with this style.
