What ever you can find. Even two piles of washers at each end will work or a strip or strips of cardboard. Most people have the stir sticks around so they're commonly mentioned.
Good time to replace the bolts with stainless or at least grease up the threads.

I use yardsticks that I cut into 6" lengths, but they aren't all created equal. The one I got from Home Depot is a 1/4" thick and those from my local hardware are 1/8" thick. Having both thicknesses gives me options on how I get to where I want to be, height-wise.

To keep things level I was lucky enough to already have a 24" wide level with built in magnets along the bottom edge, which I put across the front of the auger housing.

The blower needs to be on a level surface with the required skid shoes installed loosely so they can move up and down. Decide the clearance you want from the scraper bar to the suface, 1/8" is common for a smooth driveway, more for an uneven surface so scraper bar clears obstructions or 3/4" to 1" for crushed stone surface. Get 2 pieces the thickness you want and place under the outer part of scraper bar so bucket is supported and will not rock to the sides. Confirm that the clearance is the same between the supports to ensure scraper bar is flat and not bowed in the center. So don't use a one piece spacer under the entire scraper.

Press down on one skid to ensure it sits flat with the surface front to back and tighten the securing bolts/nuts evenly. Repeat for the other skid. Check clearance under scraper is consistent and skids are fully secured.

Good luck.
