Greetings friends....today I was feeling innovative, so I'll share....My go to blower, the 1980ish St824 with the 20 year old Chondra from HF was asking for a oil change. I only do it every so often...hasn't been done in 3 years. I hate the oil drain plug being so hard to drain without a mess. I dug up a 2 inch 1/8 in pipe nipple, found a drill bit that just fit it, drilled out the oil drain plug to the same diameter, and welded the nipple to the now drilled plug. Viola...a 1/8 cap and oil changes are now not so messy. Second hack....I had read that to change from points to breakerless in the old Briggs motors, one could just change the coil to a modern Briggs coil. I have a Toro 826 circa 1978 that lost spark cause of the **** points....I have a plethora of Briggs vertical motors that blew rods, so I robbed the coil from a 19 hp....swapped it to the 8 hp....SPARK and running! So much easier then the old Magnatron conversion from the 80's ( of which I have a box full but hate doing it!)
