This is on a Cub Cadet 528 SWE model 31AH5LTT756

What might cause the belt to start smoking and break. As you can see in the picture the brake was digging into the belt and wore a groove into itwhich is strange because the barake is not contacting the belt. The impeller was always slowly spinning even with the auger cable loose.

I'm assuming with the auger cable loose the brake should be in contact with the belt. Is there some sort of pad on the brake that's gone, I couldn't find one in the online parts manual. Is there an adjustment for the brake or some other adjustment I'm missing.
