Hello All,

Did the side plates on the bucket get added on to prevent cutting off the drivers feet, or did they help blow more snow?

Or both?

Seems like it would dig more aggressively with NO side plates.
All comments welcome,

Yea, I vote for a safety item as well. I have heard that the older exposed machines of different brands dig into frozen snow piles better. Some of the foreign machines still have exposed augers like that, though they usually have some sort of flat disc on the edges.

The sides also come in handy in urban environments where people are running into steps, curbs, porches, cars and garages. They create a little bumper so you don't damage your own property as well as the machine.

Yeah,
We referred to machines of this design, exposed auger rakes, as "widow makers." MH
