We got about 15 inches in my end of Massachusetts today and I had a dozen blowers that I got to try out for the first time! Last year we only had two small wet storms that were a waste of time trying to use the blowers on. The two Jacobsen Imperial 26s were the main workhorses as I just put impeller kits in them ( my first ) and I wanted to get a feel for them.....they worked better then expected! I then loaded up my mid eighties 924 Ariens 8 hp, 24 inch to help my girlfriend do her drive way. Even with no impeller kit it out performed the Jacobsens. I love it....I tried out for the first time a 10000 series Ariens, just to get a feel for it, a 7 hp 24 inch, and it was almost as much fun as the 924....seemed to work a little harder then the 8 hp. I fired up the old 78 826 Toro that hadn't been used since the rebuild last year. The Briggs motor was hard to pull over by hand, but then I realized I had used straight 30 weight in the engine ( rebuilt in the summer and I was in lawn tractor mode!)..so I started her with the electric and she was great. The Briggs seems to power through the heavy stuff with less RPM's ( or maybe it just is a quieter engine) and seems not to drop RPM's when pushed....more torque maybe? It also seems less vibration then the Tecumsehs. I changed out the oil to 5-30. Lastly, I took out a big Noma I rescued last week and went through. I put a Chinese carb on the big block Tecumseh, and had an issue with the governer, until I realized someone put the wrong length rod from the governer to the carb.....much better now. Very fast powerful machine, throws great ( it was powder today though) and great traction with the big knobby snow hogs. I adjusted the governer down but it still sounds like it is racing a little to fast for me. I ordered a tach online so I can verify . I think it needs a valve job, or is carboned up as well as it is popping out of the exhaust every so often. I'll run it through its paces some more to see if it clears up some.....I wanted to take out the Gilson brothers for the first time as I've never run one before. Didn't get to them before it got dark.....next storm!

I also am hesitant about messing up her new paint job!
dont keep the old girl from doing what she was meant for ! maybe just keep the eod stuff for some of the " others" lol.

you should put an impeller kit on the 924 ariens. i had one with an impeller kit and it was awesome never clogged and threw snow a mile.

sounds like someone was having a little fun today. as for the Gilson's, well you gotta try the at least once

I agree...I have to know how they throw....they are fun to work on I tell you. Old School quality and 8 Hp Briggs's. I don't care for the lack of hand grip safeties. To stop you put it in neutral....just hope nothing in the transmission linkage jams! My next project is getting my 924 32 in Ariens in the shop. It needs some carb work and is missing an air box....not even counting the Honda tank someone scabbed on. Overall it is good shape, and will be getting the impeller kit for sure. Question for those with more experience......worth doing all four impellers or just two? I did two on one of the Jacobsens and four on the other, but didn't see much difference.
