basically entering spring after a mostly snowless winter here in MA. have several blowers for sale all winter (and last winter!). a local person purchased my 2010 Arien's Sno-tek 20". two things almost scuttled the deal. i dragged it out of storage. noticed one tire was soft. Could not pump it because it was off the rim! called local shops, at least a day to do the job. jumped on line, learned a new skill. used the ratchet strap method for getting the tire to mate with the rim. success!

drove the blower over to the new owner. liked it, wanted to test out the starting proceedure. two pulls with the recoil rope, it snapped at the knot! come on. it does has electric start, so we tested it that way. he wanted it, amnd saoid he would work on the recoil. btw, this is his first blower. i gave him back $20 in case he has the power shop redo it.

so, keep those ads out there, you never know. the fates tried to kill the late season deal, but not today!

Congrats on your first blower sale.
Did he say why he was purchasing it this time of year?
How much did it sell for, if you don't mind sharing?

Well, he said his neighbor with a plow was away on vacation, and I think he and his wife got to thinking about being a little independent. It was his first blower. I think he will be excited to discover things about it over the summer. I told him he might end up wanting a more powerful blower later. This has one forward speed, no reverse. A good little blower, but limited.

sold for $200 (minus 20).

he also mentioned he wanted something his wife could easily handle. that's this blower. small two stage with electric start, one gear, easy to maneuver, pretty reliable. i think encouraging more female participation with blower usage is good. who knows, it may lead to a bigger blower purchase, and like many who keep a single stage for light snow, they will have two blowers. this is the beginning of their learning curve.

i dont think i could sell that for 200 to someone in ma knowing its not really gonna work
they are not that bad of a machine and people sell way worse for much more than the $180 he sold it for. they are really not that bad of a machine. they are actually pretty decent for what they are. they are a bit under powered but better and quicker than shoveling especially at that price. i had the 208cc24" version and found it to be an ok machine that was decent quality. i just really disliked the controls. if anything you should want people to avoid machines like the one on the left in this pictures. the size really limits what it can do making it super slow. i was using it about a week ago to go through snowbanks much bigger than its bucket. i think it took about 2 hours to get the driveway clear but it did the job and beat shoveling.

Congrats on your first sale. I've never had issues selling my older snowblowers. I keep them well maintained and the buyers snap them up quick.

Oneacer, I'd buy all your blowers and open up a snow blower museum and retire from a regular job. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. You do outstanding work!

Congrats on the sale. Looks just like my little Ariens 520 and I ain't selling mine. It works to good.
it would be very similar to your 520 except they have a taller bucket. otherwise i believe they are the same. i even think bucket off them would bolt onto the 520. if you wanted to make your 520 a multi speed machine the geared version of of these sno tek machines would be what you want.

And can you give examples of blowers you have sold and prices received? I hear of several people here who say they have little trouble selling their blowers, which is not my experience. Location, location, location, maybe. But I’d like to see some hard numbers from sellers here!

didn't you also say somewhere that you haven't had any real snow till recently? if there is no snow there is no need for a snowblower. i have sold off 2 machines this year but haven't really had anything nice enough to bring in decent money like other years. i made decent money selling that snotek last year. i forget what i paid for it but i think i was into it less than $200 including parts and repairs and sold it for $4-500. all i had to do to it was replace the carb, oil change, install 1 tire tube and adjust the skids. otherwise it was usable as i got it. i actually filled up the tire and got the machine running at the sellers house with no effort and drove the machine to my sisters house about 1 block away. i could have likely sold the machine as i got it and made money if i wanted but would have likely been a harder sell and for less money with a leaky tire and carb.

Yup, little snow hype this winter. More actual snow last winter. Still, I considered sun $250 running machines to not need snow hype to sell to those who want one on hand. I can see the hesitancy of buying a $1k-$3k new one with no hype. Who doesn’t have $200 to get a solid running blower to have around as cheap insurance?!

the less snow we get the less likely people are to rush out and buy a machine even if it is cheap next year. we have at least got a few good dumpings around here which has helped keep snowblowers selling despite having a very mild winter over all.

Hi, I'm in MA too [ E B'water ]. Where are you ? Not much action for machines this year. I sell and repair Blowers, mowers, and other small machine equipment. I have about 8 snowblowers but only one for sale, a Ariens 8.5 hp 24 in. I always keep many great running machines for spares in case I need them. Also I keep my sons and other family and friends supplied with machines when they need a replacement. Then I service those and sell them.

A properly running SnoTek 20 will EASILY cut through an 18inch driveway berm and chuck it over 30 feet. Cutting snow is not the problem, and anyone that thinks 6 inches will stop one, has simply never used one. The problem with the Sno Tek is they move too slow in anything below about a half full bucket, which makes the damn things perfect for someone 75 years old (or older). My elderly mother demands to use it whenever she's here on one of her rare wintertime visits. The cartilege in her left knee is completly gone and she uses a roller walker in anything but dry conditions(uses the cane). Scares the crap out of me when she clears the drive, but she just loves to use that thing.
