Mine was not rounded. I installed a new one and it is still not rounded. It is either the hex shaft bent a little, or the friction disc wasn't quite round.

I thought it would cause vibration, or a bumpy ride. I know the cable spring would adjust to it, but still. I felt it when I put it in the 1st reverse gear.

Car wheels aren't rounded either, so I guess it's normal.

The "Tire" that is mounted to the metal disc is out of round in most cases. After a while they will wear in and become more rounded in most cases. You will notice it more when it is a new part but if and after it wears itself in, it should be better, but not always.
Like you mentioned, the cable spring usually makes up for it so you wont feel it as much in the hand lever that engages it because the spring soaks up the vibration a bit.

I just looked at my friction disc again. The metal rim, too, is out of round. I'm not sure if it was the friction disc carrier that messed up a little, or what the heck. They might have designed it like that, so I don't know. Anyway, I don't think it would cause a big problem. The belt and friction disc material will just wear out faster. It might cause vibration as well.
