I've been looking for a Tiller to get my yard in shape, Back half of property was all over grown when I purchased the house, Had it cleared but very uneven and those viney roots everywhere so a Tiller is needed, Well today I seen a add for a garden way model 12194 by troy built for $200 Yes $200 figuring i didn't run, Well I met the guy and it started right up no issues at all, AND it's in extremely good shape, I thought it looked very similar to the Troy Bilt Horse which is a very good Tiller, Well it turns out it IS the Horse with a different paint scheme, Even all the parts will fit and trying it out this thing works great. Well yard work just got easier.

Good machine, you'll enjoy and proud using it. For the condition it's in, $200 is a bargain.

The best rototiller made is the Howard Rotovator.

The second best is the Frazer Graham-Paige rototiller of Auburn Indiana. At one time sold at auto dealers of Kaiser-Frazer cars, later by the owners of Auburn Cord Dusenberg in Auburn Indiana, later by Porter Cable. In 1981 a new rototiller was $3,600.

This one will do me well, Seen a few of those you mentioned but WOW even old used ones were $$$$. Picked up a Troy bilt Pony and the one size smaller than that both for $200 a few weeks ago and I split with a coworker, Little one has a Tec 3.5hp and my coworker was fine with the small one, Well the small one ran great. The Pony on the other hand had no spark, Switched out the points with a electronic ignition and has good spark now, However even if I put starting fluid in the plug hole all I get is a backfire out of the carb.... I think the intake valve is stuck and the compression seems low so need to go through the engine, However I really want to get my yard in better shape this fall and no time to pull the engine apart. Old Briggs flathead that seems pretty clean and no rust in the tank either but just too much to get it running right now so when I seen this I went right for it. Much better shape than I expected too, Just need a good cleaning and going to go through it before really using it but the test area I tried it on really got tilled LOL

Sometimes the best deals on the best machines can be found on the vague ads with no pictures. My guess is a lot of times people don't know what they have so they just stick them up like that.

If it wasn't for the low compression I would have said flywheel key for the back firing, as you are knowledgeable to know however I'm interested in the electronic ignition conversion, wondering what you used? I've seen replacement ignition modules for about $15.

I actually had another flathead briggs (just newer without points) but newer and used it from that one, Will double check the key but Had the flywheel off to change the coil so the key was good at that point, but will be pulling off the flywheel to check the valves anyway so I’ll know more then

I've done a half dozen swaps with Predators on Troy bilt Horses......If they have a Kohler, I'll fix, anything else....Predator.

Thought about that, then found out Briggs also made twin pulley engines lol actually thinking I’ll sell the pony (the one with the issue) so want to keep it original, seems people like original when it all works although the predator would be a good upgrade and would do it and deal with losing reverse lol The horse also has a twin pulley but reverse on that beast is a nice option when your in a corner.
