Does it make sense to install a light piece of metal over the plastic scraper edge in a single stage snowblower or do you think it may break the plastic? I understand the metal would probably have to be at the "level" as the plastic edge as not to change the height of the rubber auger.

I think it would be a waist of time as the plastic is made to wear down and a thin piece of metal would wear also. the scraper bar on my toro 3650 and 2450 are not flat so shaping a piece of metal to match might be a problem

I think adding rigidity would reduce stress on the plastic parts. The metal bar will be less friendly on surfaces, depending where you run it. You'll be giving up a little lubricity and could deter forward locomotion. It may even become an ice accumulator.
