I just wanted to send a note of thanks to everyone on this great blog who helped me figure out how to get my machine up and running again. About a month ago I had a no start. The electric start crapped out too. Then the pull rope shredded to nothing. Also a bad gas cap. A broken fuel line. The muffler bracket falling off. A fouled plug. Gunk in the carb etc. etc. Things were looking pretty grim. Then I found this place. Step by step I was given pointers by kind people on how to get everything back in order and now it's running like a top. Today was the final piece of the puzzle - a new electric start. One touch and VROOM! Who knows? The old dragon might breathe fire for another 20 years. :icon-cheers:

You pessimist. Any of these older machines that can't do another 40 years with proper maintenance is an exception to the rule
Get a good machine and maintain it and it likely will outlive most of us.
Admittedly some things will age out, but hopefully every one is replaceable, and again that's just maintenance.
