I'd like to suggest a new category in the brand specific area. Something for the unusal or orphan brand machines, like my Snow Bird.

Probably not what your wanting to hear but you already said it "brand specific"

Maybe try the general catagory

I also suggested a snowbird category awhile back..
and I was also greeted by the sound of chirping crickets! ;)
guess there isnt a big enough of a following..

(and yes, technically Snowbird can be lumped under the MTD umbrella..
but the original, classic snowbirds have nothing to do with MTD, and IMO they rate their own sub-forum, apart from MTD..)

Hello? Anyone?
I guess you noticed sscotsman's snowbird link?

Snowbird Snowblowers

What is the purpose of that side arm from the auger housing to the wheel.

sscotsman your 224 looks like it could use some new rubber?:D
Can you still get the snowbird decals if you're redoing one?

I just watched the video, the rubber is fine compared to the rest of it. :D

How hard is it to get parts for a 1961 Snowbird?

Ed,
My Hahn has that arm, too. Its the chain housing.

That would make sense, chain drive.

Thanks for the reply, maybe others thought I was kidding when I asked?

My little Craftman 5/22 only has the belts.
You don't ask you don't learn.

Ed, I see the "side arm" question has already been answered..
It never had any rubber! ;) solid wheels.
No decals that I know of..

yes, but..I dont think there is a big enough following for Snowbirds to warrant its own specific sub-forum here..it would probably only get a few posts a year.
and Snowbird already has its one dedicated forum, which serves the needs of snowbird fan well enough..google: snowbird yahoo forum.

Actually, now that I look at the list of brand forums here, IMO there are far too many! ;) here is the whole current list:

Ariens
Atlas
Craftsman
Cub Cadet
Honda
Husqvarna
John Deere
Lawn Boy
MTD
Murray
Simplicity
Snapper
Sno-Tek
Snowjoe
Toro
Troy-Bilt
Yard Machines
Yard Man
Yamaha

Thats 19 forums, and IMO far too many..
several are redundant, for example, there is no need for a Sno-Tek forum, that should just go under Ariens. Several should just be lumped under MTD. Here is my suggestion for streamlining it:

Ariens
Craftsman
Gilson
Honda
Husqvarna/Poulan
John Deere
MTD/Troy-Bilt/Cub Cadet/Yardman. (one forum, with all those names in the title)
Murray
Simplicity
Snapper
Toro
Snowbird/YardMan
Yamaha
Other

Thats 13 "brand" fourms instead of 19, and those 13 forums encompass 97% of all snowblowers..the "other" forum can take the remaining obscure names.

Some snowblowers can go in more than one catagory..for example a "Craftsman" could also be a MTD..but most people wont know that. Craftsmans, in general, are common enough that they warrant their own forum,, regardless of who made the specific Craftsman in question. same for John Deere.

yes, but it can also be folded in with Gilson.
Lawnboy is, IMO, one of those brands that is obscure and rare enough (for snowblowers anyway) that it doesnt really warrant its own category..

And if someone puts a question in an obviously wrong category, it can just be moved..
